SPECIES:
Miracinonyx inexpectatus, Miracinonyx trumani
This is a genus little is known about. Evidence is fragmentary, and from my readings it seems the classification of the specimens assigned to the genus is not always clear and still under debate.
What is known is that it resembles a cheetah in it's short face and long body, but has some differences. Unlike the cheetah, these animals had fully retractable claws and were slightly less lanky. They are believed to have live in mountainous areas and savannas. The mountain species would have had thicker coats and perhaps larger paws such as the snow leopard. reconstructions have been made based on groups of fragments.
